A great fan of individual design Alie Tilley was inspired to make her own unique jewellery after a fruitless search for an affordable showstopper. She soon found herself inundated with requests from friends and slowly started to design commissioned pieces. Over time the demand for her work has increased and Alie now sells her work through both her website and selected boutiques in Europe.

From her home in Oxfordshire, Alie now designs and creates contemporary, modern sterling silver jewellery using handmade, lampwork beads in a fantastic range of colours.

Functional Lighting – Modern Contemporary Recycled Art

Fed up with today’s disposable world and influenced by the 1940’s adage of ‘make do and mend’, together with the functionality of that period where aesthetics were influenced by function, Colin called upon his training in mechanical engineering, art and film to reinterpret previously purely functional lighting objects to give them a new unity which is primarily aesthetic.

Functional Art Influences

Other influences for Colin’s functional art include the kinetic work of ‘Jean Tinguely’ and his sculptural machines, David Smith’s scrap metal assemblage, Anthony Caro and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Current art and experience

Colin’s training in mechanical engineering, art and theatre design has become a board from where much of his work springs. He currently splits his time between sculpture and special effects for film and television, where he can find himself working in environments ranging from Ancient Egypt to Victorian Britain and he draws upon these experiences within his art.
